Reading School

At the core of Reading School’s distinctive holistic approach, called the ‘Reading Way’, are the school’s values and its vision of becoming a flourishing world-leading institution developing academic excellence and building good men. As a school celebrating 900 years in Reading in 2025, it certainly has a long history of educating young men. It does so in an inspirational environment, by fostering a spirit of inquiry and academic debate, balanced by good listening and social skills. Boys are encouraged to strive for excellence, grow in character and integrity, and develop their leadership potential, to have the best possible preparation for the opportunities and challenges presented by life in the 21st century. As a result, students achieve outstanding results in public examinations, and the vast majority gain places at top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Geographic Location

Several of Reading School’s buildings have been designated as Grade II listed buildings by English Heritage. It’s no wonder that the picturesque school grounds are often chosen as a TV show location. Conveniently, the town of Reading is only a 30-minute train ride from London.

School Facilities

In addition to the historic buildings such as the chapel, the school is well-equipped with modern facilities, including a fitness suite, squash courts, gym and other on-site sports facilities. It has recently invested in a new Science Centre.

Academic Results

Reading School ranks 8th best school in the UK for GCSE results, while A Level results consistently comprise 90% A*-B grades (2015-2017). Ofsted has rated the school “Outstanding” in all areas (2017). Moreover, there have been 150 Oxbridge Successes among students over the last six years.

Extra-curricular Activities

Students are encouraged to join an array of clubs and societies spanning across sports, music, chess, bridge, Warhammer, drama and computer science – to name a few. There are currently more than 50 lunchtime and after-school clubs and societies on offer.
