Bedford School

Founded by Royal Charter back in 1552, yet still thriving today, Bedford is a school steeped in history. Despite its academic excellence, it believes that academic results themselves only matter in so far as choice over the next stage is concerned; far more important is the curiosity, ingenuity and sense of fun which academic, and other, interests inspire – and therefore the sort of man each boy becomes. Furthermore, good manners, consideration for others, an ability to communicate effectively in both formal and informal settings are even more important today than they have ever been in a world which is becoming increasingly competitive.

Geographic Location

The school’s 50 acre estate is located in the heart of Bedford, with London’s four main airports in easy reach. In fact, it only takes 38 minutes for pupils to travel to London St Pancras from Bedford School.

School Facilities

Recent additions to the facilities include the magnificent new Quarry Theatre at St Luke’s, a library, music school, fitness centre, observatory and planetarium. There is also a pavilion for cricket and rugby, swimming pool, art school and chapel.

Academic Results

In 2019, 83% of boys went on to Russell Group and/or Times Top 30 Universities. 89% of their exams were graded A* to C or equivalent in IB or GCSE.

Extra-curricular Activities

There are over 70 clubs and societies across both the Prep and Upper School. These include Latin, the Classical Society, politics club, architectural drawing, ballroom dancing, chess club and Young Enterprise, to name but a few.
