With a population of 80,000, Nelson is considered “sunshine capital” of New Zealand, close to beaches, rivers, mountains, and the Abel Tasman and Kahurangi National Parks. The school is a short distance from the modern city facilities of Nelson centre, and near to international airports in Wellington (25 minutes), Christchurch (45 minutes) and Auckland (80 minutes).
On the parklike campus, students have access to excellent facilities including a renovated library, drama and music suites, health and fitness suites and a Modern Learning Environment with integrated digital technology.
Nelson College for Girls is proud of its NCEA results each year, in which students consistently score above the national average on all measures. In 2013, over 30% of Year 11 students gained a Level 1 Certificate endorsed with Excellence, while a total of 25 Nelson girls were awarded Scholarships.
The school boasts an extremely strong Music and Drama extra curricular programme; in 2013 the Stella Nova choir won the Regional Big Sing choral competition; and students also perform strongly in the Sheila Winn Shakespeare competition. Other extracurricular activities are also available.
